What you’ll learn
An advanced course, taught in person at our East Tamaki academy.
Every cosmetic tattoo artist is eventually asked to fix someone else's work. Removal lets you lighten old, faded or poorly done cosmetic tattoos, either to prepare the area for a correction or to remove it over a series of sessions, turning clients you'd otherwise send away into new bookings.
This advanced course teaches two non-laser methods and when to use each. You'll learn saline removal, how osmosis draws pigment up and out of the skin, and your technique and working depth. You'll then learn a professional lightening solution, how it differs from saline, and its own protocol. You'll learn to choose the right method for the pigment, the skin and the client's goal, whether lightening before a cover or full removal.
Safety runs through the whole course: client suitability and contraindications, safe use of numbing agents, why eyeliner removal close to the eye carries extra risk, session spacing and full healing between treatments, and recognising scarring risk and when to refer a client to laser or a medical practitioner. Healing is where removal succeeds or fails, so you'll learn each stage of removal healing, scab care, and how to tell normal healing from infection. You'll also learn to set realistic expectations and use clear consent forms.
Model work is at the heart of this course: after lecturer demonstrations, you'll treat 4 live models under close guidance, using both methods. Prior cosmetic tattooing experience is required. You'll need to have completed a cosmetic tattooing course with us or elsewhere. Proof of prior skills required.
