What you’ll learn
An advanced course, taught in person at our East Tamaki academy.
Paramedical camouflage uses skin-tone pigments to blend scars and stretch marks into the surrounding skin. For many clients, it's the first thing that has ever made a difference to an area they've been self-conscious about for years, which makes it some of the most rewarding work in cosmetic tattooing.
This advanced course is for experienced cosmetic tattoo artists ready to take on corrective work. You'll learn how scars and stretch marks form and heal, how to assess whether an area is fully healed and mature enough to treat, and which clients must not be treated, including those prone to keloid scarring or with medical conditions that need a doctor's clearance first. You'll learn advanced colour theory for skin tones, how to match and mix skin-tone pigments, and why test patches matter. You'll also learn how skin-tone pigments can shift over time and with sun exposure, and how to explain that honestly to clients.
You'll learn safe numbing for scar tissue, then technique, depth and layering for camouflage work. Healing matters even more on scar tissue, so you'll learn how camouflage pigments heal and settle, aftercare, how to tell normal healing from infection or a reaction, and how to plan follow-up sessions. Model work is at the heart of this course: after lecturer demonstrations, you'll treat 3 live models under close guidance.
Prior cosmetic tattooing experience is required, along with a portfolio of your healed cosmetic tattoo work. Proof of prior skills required.
